The Organisation & The Role:
 
This role sits on the Risk Assurance Leadership Team in the 2nd Line of Defence at a Big4 Australian Bank, leading a team to ensure that risks and obligations are being appropriately mitigated through the design and operational effectiveness of key controls for the designated business areas. As part of the leadership team, this role will also influence other leaders to improve and embed risk monitoring and control practices for the Bank.
 
 
The Responsibilities:
 
      Operational Management
  • Accountable for the delivery and completion of assurance work supporting the division which consists of Wealth Management and Business Banking products.
  • Responsible in contributing to the design and implementation of an effective three lines of defence risk assurance model, and will lead effective engagement with external and internal auditors, and also be responsible for contributing to the development of a high-performing, trusted and valued risk team.
  • Manage assurance pipeline and quality of the allocated resources to accommodate Board and executive management requests for specific reviews/deep dives.
  • Ensure the completion of assurance reviews for all Sarbanes Oxley, Prudential Standard, Projects (especially high risk rated), thematic reviews and value-chain reviews.

     Strategy & Leadership

  • Contribute to the strategic direction and operational oversight of the Risk Assurance function.
  • Escalate opinions, including suggested actions to the Head of Risk Assurance and Executive Management. Report assurance results and insights in quarterly General Manager and Divisional Risk and Compliance Committee reports.
  • Act as a people leader for direct and indirect reports, provide frequent feedback and professional guidance on both a team and individual level.
  • Contribute proactively and constructively to the Risk and Compliance forums to achieve alignment and identify / share best practice opportunities.
Knowledge & Experience:
  • A Risk Assurance Senior who have mastered all key components of the assurance competency framework and have 15+ years advanced experience in financial services and/or assurance knowledge in order to effectively and efficiently develop and review annual plans, strategy documents, review scopes, assurance reports, and Committee Papers.
  • 10+ years leadership experience across Wealth Management and Assurance.
  • Relevant industry and other professional qualifications (eg. CA, CISA, CIA, CFA, FRM, MBA) desirable.
  • A genuine leader who remains a strategic vision, and also can get their hands dirty when required.
  • Exceptional stakeholder management skills with Group Executives, C-Levels and Business Heads.
