Are you passionate about protecting the environment and ensuring healthy, sustainable communities? One of Sydney’s largest local councils is looking for an Environmental Health Officer to join the team on a contract through to 24th of December 2025 (with potential to extend). This role offers the opportunity to make a real impact by turning environmental awareness into action, working directly with the community, businesses, and stakeholders to promote and safeguard environmental health.

What you’ll do:

  • Carry out inspections of food premises, cooling towers, on-site sewerage systems and other high-risk facilities to ensure compliance with legislation.
  • Monitor and respond to issues such as noise, air, water and land pollution.
  • Contribute to the delivery of sustainability initiatives, health promotion programs, and council-wide environmental strategies.
  • Provide expert advice to businesses, residents, and other stakeholders on environmental health matters.
  • Support community engagement through events, workshops, and education initiatives.
  • Participate in incident response and after-hours environmental health coverage (on rotation).
What we’re looking for:
  • Relevant degree qualifications in Environmental Health (or related field).
  • Sound knowledge of current environmental health issues, with experience in inspections and compliance.
  • Strong communication and report-writing skills, with the ability to educate and engage the community.
  • Current NSW Driver’s Licence (Class C).
  • Local government experience is highly regarded.
