  • Technical Lead – Cyber Security (Contract)

Working for a medium sized NSW Government Organisation, we are looking for an experienced Technical Lead with Cyber Security expertise to join the Cyber Uplift Programme. The programme’s primary goal is to strengthen data and system protections, ensuring safe, secure, and tamper-free elections that instil public confidence in the legitimacy of elected governments.
Reporting to the Cyber Programme Manager, you will lead the technical implementation of the agency’s Essential 8 cyber security uplift programme, working closely with the Enterprise Security Architect and project teams to operationalise security architecture patterns and hardening guidance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide hands-on technical leadership and mentorship across infrastructure, cloud, identity, and application teams.
  • Collaborate with project managers, operations, vendors, and stakeholders to deliver ACSC Essential 8 aligned solutions.
  • Validate implementation of Essential 8 controls through technical assurance, testing, and configuration baselines.
  • Establish and monitor metrics to measure control maturity and effectiveness.
  • Develop project delivery and implementation plans to support adoption of technical outcomes.
  • Report progress, risks, and dependencies to program governance stakeholders.
  • Contribute to assurance and governance through repeatable validation and continuous improvement processes.
Skills & Experience
  • Tertiary qualifications or equivalent professional experience in cyber security or IT.
  • Proven experience delivering multi-stream cybersecurity programmes in enterprise or government environments.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead Essential 8 mitigation strategies across complex hybrid environments.
  • Strong experience with Windows/Microsoft environments, including Entra ID, Azure, and Windows System Administration.
  • Hands-on experience in:
  • Identity and Access Management (Active Directory, MFA, RBAC, PIM/PAM, Conditional Access, SSO, Federation)
  • Microsoft enterprise operations and cloud security
  • Event log collection, monitoring, SIEM integration
  • Network security, VPN, segmentation, and monitoring
  • Enterprise Application Control, PKI, certificate management, code signing
  • Scripting, automation, and secure configuration (PowerShell, Ansible, Terraform)
  • Backup and disaster recovery
  • Proven ability to influence stakeholders, manage expectations, and deliver on time.
  • Experience in building technical implementation schedules and tracking progress.
  • Australian citizen, permanent resident, or relevant working visa.
