The Role & The Organisation:

In this role you will be the 'go-to' for any operational risk related matters for the whole bank (120+ staff in Australia). You will join a flat structured 2nd LoD Risk team reporting directly into the CRO.


Your Responsibilities:
  • Plan, design, and implement an overall Operational Risk Management Framework (ORMF) and update relevant risk policy documentation.
  • Develop, manage and maintain the Risk Appetite Framework including:
    • Development and maintenance of the Risk Register;
    • Responsibility for coordinating the Risk Profiling process by identifying key risks relevant to each department and the wider Branch;
    • Development and maintenance of Key Risk Indicators (KRI) to support the measurement of actual risk levels;
    • Implementation and oversight of the Risk Acceptance process;
    • Development and maintenance of Risk Reporting.
  • Develop and support a positive Risk Assurance process, lead and facilitate the implementation of the Risk and Control Self-Assessments (RCSA)
  • Provide guidance and assistance to all departments in regards to the development and application of processes, procedures and controls.
  • Undertake operational risk 'deep dives' on individual departments to test controls and coordinate remediation of control improvements
  • Develop a breach & incident reporting process.
  • Update and manage the Business Continuity Plan (BCP) and Disaster Recovery Tests on a regular basis including the documentations.
  • Develop and maintain key relationships throughout the business as necessary, ensuring open and effective risk communications.
  • Coordinate necessary departmental training to assist departments manage their identified risks.
  • Foster a robust framework for upcoming operational risks in Outsourcing Management, Information Security and Data Management etc.

Skill Requirements:
  • Hands-on experience in risk profiling, risk registers maintenance, KRIs, risk appetite reporting, risk and controls assessments / assurance etc.
  • Solid knowledge of operational risk principles and frameworks which apply to banking institutions
  • Ability to translate regulatory requirements (esp. APRA, ASIC & AUSTRAC) into commercial practice and controls
  • High attention to detail and processes
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to influence senior management
  • Self motivated and reliable - capable in leading / driving projects, and stepping up as 2IC when required
