Job Title: Property Acquisition Officer – Infrastructure Projects

Pay Rate: $60-100 PH + super
Location: Wollongong – may consider Parramatta Office – 4 days per week office 1 day WFH

Leading Government Department is looking for a Infrastructure Property Officer to join them on a 12 month contract, starting immediately. 

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Property Acquisition Officer to join a government team responsible for delivering strategic property acquisition outcomes in support of critical infrastructure projects across NSW. In this role, you will play a pivotal part in ensuring the timely and compliant acquisition of land under the Land Acquisition (Just Terms Compensation) Act 1991, facilitating negotiations with landowners and stakeholders to meet client, community, and government expectations.


Key Responsibilities
  • Interpret client briefs and develop project proposals to meet quality, time, and financial targets.
  • Provide expert advice on relevant legislation including the Land Acquisition (Just Terms Compensation) Act, Crown Lands Act, Native Title Act, and others to ensure compliance.
  • Deliver assigned projects and tasks under the guidance of the Senior Infrastructure Property Officer, maintaining financial oversight and client satisfaction.
  • Liaise effectively with stakeholders including local/state agencies, valuers, solicitors, and landowners to meet project outcomes.
  • Manage consultant engagement processes and assist in developing an integrated database for property transactions and reporting.
  • Communicate clearly and transparently with landowners regarding compulsory acquisition processes.
  • Interpret registered survey plans, land titles, and other legal documents relevant to land tenure and infrastructure projects.
Key Challenges
  • Balancing multiple concurrent projects and stakeholder expectations while delivering on time and within budget.
  • Explaining and negotiating complex acquisition matters under compulsory acquisition legislation with tact and professionalism.
  • Understanding and interpreting survey plans, gazettals, dealings, and property titles with accuracy.
Essential Criteria
  • In-depth knowledge of NSW property acquisition legislation including the Land Acquisition (Just Terms Compensation) Act 1991.
  • Experience working with Land and Property Information (LPI) NSW and handling statutory property transactions.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to liaise directly with landowners and stakeholders.
  • Willingness to travel regionally as required by the role.
  • A valid NSW Driver’s Licence.
  • Demonstrated ability to read and interpret survey plans, easements, and land tenure documentation.
