The Organisation & The Role:

This is a hands-on and AML focused compliance role in the 2nd Line of Defence at an international commercial bank's (foreign ADI) Sydney Branch. 


Role Responsibilities:
  • Primary responsible for AML/CTF, KYC & CDD functions – reviewing/approving new clients, periodic reviews of existing clients, enhanced client due diligence, suspicious transaction monitoring, sanctions alerts review and clearing, Branch risk assessments, Head Office reporting, AUSTRAC reporting and staff AML training.
  • Keep abreast of AML/CTF related compliance and regulatory requirements and developments; perform impact analysis and update relevant compliance policies and procedures accordingly.
  • Assist in promoting a robust compliance culture including implementation of routine compliance training and compliance induction according to the Branch’s compliance training schedule.
  • Contribute to updating and reviewing compliance related policy & procedures, especially those related to AML/CTF requirements.
  • Perform regular compliance assurance/ internal control testing to ensure compliance with AML/CTF regulatory requirements and their implementation effectiveness.
  • Monitor timely completion of audit rectifications related to AML/CTF issues; perform assessment of rectification effectiveness.
  • Update local Branch's AML policies and procedures as required to reflect Head Office requirements.
  • Contribute to the completion of various compliance reporting such as regular Management Committee Reporting, Head Office reporting and AUSTRAC reporting.
  • Maintain complete, accurate and timely compliance records; update various Compliance registers.Participate in risk event investigation, compliance self-assessment exercise and compliance risk assessment exercises, especially those related to AML.
  • Assist with ad hoc risk management, legal and project requirements.

Requirements:
  • 3+ years compliance experience acquired from the Australian Financial Services industry, the majority of which must be AML related.
  • Reasonable knowledge of international AMLCTF standards and AUSTRAC reporting requirements.
  • Tertiary qualified in Business / Finance / Legal / Risk & Compliance discipline.
  • Demonstrated autonomy - ability to prioritise work with minimum supervision.
  • Interest in interpreting legislations and legal documents is highly desirable.
  • Mandarin Chinese language skills – both oral and written.
