Title: Observability Engineer / Site Reliability Engineer – Elastic & Linux

Type: Permanent
Hybrid: 2 days in office - 3 days from home -1 day in Kogarah (Wednesday) and the other in either Parramatta or Sydney CBD
Salary: $150,000 - $165,000 + super
Work Type: On-prem, hands-on

The Role

A hands-on Observability Engineer / Site Reliability Engineer – Elastic & Linux is needed to support and enhance an enterprise-grade Elastic Stack environment.
You’ll ensure full-stack visibility across infrastructure and applications to enable proactive monitoring, anomaly detection, and system reliability.
This is a highly technical, “under-the-hood” engineering role - ideal for someone who enjoys building, optimising, and maintaining complex observability platforms rather than simply consuming dashboards.

Technical Must-Haves
  • Elastic Stack expertise (Elasticsearch, Logstash, Kibana, Beats, APM) – essential
  • Linux Administration: 5+ years at admin level
  • IT Experience: 10+ years (or 7–8 if strong Elastic experience)
  • Observability experience: logs, metrics, traces, SLIs/SLOs
  • Hands-on SME: strong technical operator, not just architectural

Key Responsibilities
  • Build, maintain and optimise the Elastic Stack (Elasticsearch, Logstash, Kibana, Beats, APM)
  • Design and manage data ingestion pipelines — parsing, enrichment, and indexing at scale
  • Perform upgrades, health checks, troubleshooting and platform tuning across on-prem environments
  • Develop custom Kibana dashboards, alerting, and visualisations aligned with SLIs/SLOs
  • Support incident response and post-mortem analysis with actionable insights
  • Collaborate closely with senior architects and engineers within observability and infrastructure teams

About You
  • 10+ years’ IT experience (or 7–8 with strong, direct Elastic experience)
  • 5+ years of Linux administration at system-admin level
  • Proven Elastic Stack expertise - cluster setup, upgrades, performance tuning
  • Strong understanding of observability concepts: logs, metrics, traces, SLIs/SLOs
  • Hands-on SME mindset with solid troubleshooting and automation skills

Desirable:
  • Experience with OTEL, CI/CD, or containerised environments
  • Basic scripting (Python, Bash)
  • Familiarity with ITIL and change-control environments
Must be an Australian Citizen or Permanent Resident.
