Our client, a Leading NSW Government Department are looking for a Senior Systems Engineer to join their team in Macquarie Park. The team are currently working from home with only Wednesday's in the office to collaborate.
 
The initial contract will be 12 months with potential for an extension past this point.

Primary purpose of the role
Help build out their infrastructure and application landscape and troubleshoot problems as they arise. They are a growing department with a team of highly dedicated IT professionals who work together to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of Application Development & Support Teams and ultimately the customers experience. You will work across a number of projects.

Key accountabilities
  • Application Performance Monitoring – Standardised performance monitoring service
  • Application Control – Control application execution using safe and block lists
  • Privileged Access Management – Elevating access only when required & auditing activities
  • Patching, Vulnerability Management & Configuration Hardening – Remediate and implement
 
Key knowledge and experience
  • Installing and configuring application software, operating systems and everything in between. Including technical testing and resolving any issues found
  • Overseeing the development and installation of new application infrastructures.
  • Demonstrating proposed/new solutions to team members and other stakeholders.
  • Write custom scripts to reduce the need for human intervention.
  • Provide detailed specifications for solutions.
 
Essential requirements
  • Experience and detailed understanding of how to administer, manage & maintain application servers & webservers, including relevant associated IT processes & practices.
  • Performed administration, performance tuning, and system monitoring in a large enterprise.
  • Experience and detailed understanding of working with various operating systems and their implications i.e. Windows, Linux, AD integrations, DNS and load balancer technologies
  • Ideally developed/implemented engineering applications for a large enterprise
  • Understanding of best practices and industry wide tools, capabilities and processes, especially in the areas of application control, application performance monitoring & privileged access management
  • Good knowledge of networking technologies (OSI network layers, TCP/IP)
