Our client, a Leading NSW Government Department are looking for a Principal Project Officer to join their team on a contract until the end of June 2021 with potential for an extension.

The Principal Project Officer, leads and manages a portfolio of projects and programs, provides expert advice and effective management to ensure that leading projects are effectively planned, coordinated and managed.

The role is primarily responsible for undertaking work projects as directed by two  Executive Directors.

A background in the planning space in highly desirable within in the role.

Key accountabilities
  • Undertake complex research and analysis in support of delivering a whole-of-government precinct strategy for Greater Sydney to ensure that public land is used to optimise outcomes and facilitating investment attraction.
  • Initiate, lead and manage work performed by external contractors and consultants, where projects require use of external expertise, to achieve project objectives.
  • Provide effective stakeholder management and enhanced case management and project management services to support the Director and inform decision making.
  • Provide research, issues management, support and recommendations for responding to emerging issues to ensure effective and evidence-based resolution with minimal risk to the Department.
  • Provide support and advice to two Senior Project Officers in the team, providing ongoing guidance and leadership.
Key challenges
  • Managing complex and politically sensitive briefings, materials, consultations and negotiations with diverse stakeholders, within agreed timelines, given their varying expectations, viewpoints and interests in a high-profile environment.
  • Effectively managing collaborative working arrangements and partnerships, and facilitating the engagement, input and commitment of a wide range of stakeholders across the NSW Government.
  • Achieving multiple project objectives and ensuring the team develops accurate and well-analysed information, given limited resources and tight deadlines, and the need to identify project interdependencies and balance competing demands and priorities
