We are seeking an experienced Chief Engineer with first-hand expertise in the design, development, automation and implementation of data technologies and services in Azure, AWS and on-premises environments.

The ideal candidate is well versed in relational databases and is certified in public Azure and/or AWS technologies, has a firm grasp of emerging cloud technologies, and an ability to quickly adopt them to deliver value to our business.

The role:

Design
  • Understand and contribute to the ongoing development of the GroupTech Cloud strategy, Infrastructure & Operations Strategy, and the components of the Transformation agenda
  • Work in collaboration with L3 Engineers, Architecture, Security and Risk teams to build best in class Infrastructure solutions
  • Contribute to the development of relevant Infrastructure and Service Management policies and standards.
  • Provide peer-review and design oversight for the wider Engineering function.
  • Deliver best-in-class Infrastructure patterns that accelerate workload onboarding through automation and within the bank’s risk appetite.
Reporting
  • Apply the “should we” test and escalate any potential risk issue as soon as possible.
  • Provide status updates as required to your people leader
  • Attend agile standups as required
Operational
  • Provide L4 support during P1 or P2 incidents; lead Engineering diagnosis during Post Incident Reviews (PIRs)
  • Cultivate deep working relationships with key stakeholders both vertically in your area of expertise and horizontally across functions.
  • Collaborate with L3 support to drive simplification of the database environment through BAU activities
  • Uplift and transform infrastructure services to evergreen
 
Main requirements:
  • AWS Certified Solutions Architect plus other relevant data certifications
  • Azure Solutions Architect Expert, Azure Data Fundamentals plus other relevant data certifications.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Science, Information Technology, Engineering or Mathematics, or equivalent industry experience.
  • 5+ years of experience architecting, designing, developing, and implementing enterprise database solutions.
  • Understanding of and experience in implementing AWS and/or Azure reference architecture.
  • Experience in several of the following areas: Cassandra, Datastax, MongoDB, Microsoft SQL Server, Sybase, DB2, Oracle, DevOps, containers, networking, integration patterns.
