I am recruiting a senior investment risk manager for a business that genuinely cares about making a positive difference in the world. They are a retail superannuation business based in Sydney that only invest your money into companies that make a positive change in our world - think clean, renewable energy. Healthcare & Wellbeing. Recycling. Efficient transport. And if you have seen how much renewable energy stock prices have soared in the last 12 months you will notice they are helping create a more positive future and also retirement for their customers.
Ideally you will be from a superannuation background (wider financial services is fine too!) but more important is the type of person you are. Do you believe in making a positive impact in the world you live in? Do you want to help leave the world in a better state than you found it for your children? Do you believe in equality in pay between men and women? If so, you will find a workforce of like-minded individuals here. Don't get me wrong - we are not looking for climate change activists - just good people who get fulfilment from knowing the work they do is ethical and making a positive change.
The role reports directly into the Head of Risk and Compliance but essentially owns the entire investment risk function of the business. The business has spent a lot of money on third party consultants who have built the investment risk management framework and governance processes and this hire will take ownership of this function. You will perform risk analysis across the investment portfolios and measure, monitor and report all elements of investment risk and returns with regards to the governance framework.
You will also form a close working relationship with the investment team of 5 as well as the chair of the investment committee

Role responsibilities
  • Maintain and drive the Investment Governance Framework and associated policies, procedures and documentation.
  • Ensure the Investment Governance Framework remains up to date with APRA guidelines and market practice;
  • Produce periodic risk reporting on investment risks (including compiling reports and providing analysis and commentary on performance and risk attribution, compliance breach reporting, liquidity analysis);
  • Support the Chair of the Investment Committee through the provision of risk analysis and commentary separate to the investment management team;
  • attending Investment Committee meetings;
  • Monitor whether the investment management team’s investment decisions are made in compliance with the Investment Governance Framework, Investment Strategy (incorporating the Investment Policy Statement), disclosure documents and Investment Management Agreements;
  • Constructively challenge the investment management team on assumptions, calculations and proposals they put forward;
  • Coordinate the annual stress testing and performance objectives of the Funds;
  • Monitor the investment management team’s approach to ensuring all investments are valued as accurately as possible, and that these valuations are reflected in the unit price;
  • Monitor whether the Impact Team’s work is in compliance with PDS, the Screening and Impact Framework and the Investment Strategy;
  • Coordinate with internal audit, the assurance program of compliance and effectiveness of controls, including unit pricing across each investment option.

REQUIREMENTS
  • Values-aligned, someone who cares about making the world a better place for everyone;
  • Someone with a lot of integrity, who is committed to ethical decision making;
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to operate at both tactical and strategic levels;
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to influence;
  • Strong organisational skills, takes delivering on deadlines and sticking to schedules seriously;
  • Stakeholder management skills, gets lots of energy out of building strong working relationships and collaborates well in a team environment;
  • 5+ years experience in asset management consulting or related;
  • Tertiary qualifications in mathematics based degrees such as econometric or finance.
