Head of Risk – Executive Leadership Role (Sydney)
A growing and innovative financial services and investment organisation is seeking a senior Head of Risk to lead and enhance its enterprise-wide risk function. This role offers the opportunity to influence strategy, shape risk culture, and partner closely with the executive team.

The Role

Reporting directly to the CEO, the Head of Risk will lead the risk function, providing oversight, guidance, and strategic input across operational, investment, and regulatory risks. The role is pivotal in embedding strong governance practices while supporting business growth and innovation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the development and continuous improvement of the organisation’s Enterprise Risk Management Framework.
  • Support the Board and Executive team in defining and monitoring risk appetite and governance practices.
  • Provide strategic oversight across operational, investment, and regulatory risks.
  • Partner with Technology, Product, and Operations to manage cybersecurity, data protection, and third-party risks.
  • Oversee incident management, risk reporting, and maintenance of the risk register.
  • Build, mentor, and lead a high-performing risk team, fostering a strong risk culture across the organisation.
  • Advise executive leadership on emerging risks, regulatory developments, and risk mitigation strategies.
Candidate Profile
  • 10–15+ years’ experience in risk management, compliance, or governance, ideally within financial services, superannuation, wealth or investment management.
  • Proven experience in senior risk leadership, preferably as Head of Risk or in a CRO-adjacent role.
  • Strong understanding of regulatory frameworks, operational risk, and risk governance.
  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to influence executive teams.
  • Commercially minded, able to balance risk oversight with business growth and innovation.
  • Tertiary qualifications in Finance, Law, Risk Management, or related fields; professional certifications desirable.
