Title: Finance Manager
Rate: $600 + super per day
Start Date: ASAP
Duration: December 2024 - (possibility of extension)
WFH: 1-2 day in office
Location: Sydney, 2000

One of Sydney's top 5 Universities are looking for a Finance Manager to join their team on a 6 Month contract.

About the role
This position focuses on relationship management and business partnering. Responsible for relationships with primary stakeholders and works collaboratively with other Financial Services staff to provide effective, efficient and integrated day to day operational financial management and accounting services. The position advises a range of stakeholders across the Faculties and Schools for financial matters and contributes to continuous improvement and new initiatives within both wider Financial Services and across Faculties and Schools.

Responsibilities
  • Provide expert assistance and guidance in regards to all of the financial affairs and resources of the Faculties and Schools; Financial insights and problem solving;
  • Operational management of portfolio activities/budgets; advanced accounting and management reporting using a variety of financial and non-financial Key Performance Indicators (KPIs);
  • Interpreting, applying and implementing University financial policies, procedures and guidelines;
  • Liaising with other Financial Services staff as directed to provide an end-to-end professional service;
  • Contributes to the development of annual client plans that identify the current key issues and needs for the client portfolio, and the schedule of approved projects and services for delivery throughout the year;
  • Implements service delivery improvements to a client portfolio and identifies opportunities for continuous improvement and the achievement of service excellence;
  • Engages with key stakeholders in the client portfolio to support the implementation of strategic transformation and change initiatives and ensure the successful implementation and realisation of key outcomes.
  • Contributes to the development of annual client plans that identify the current key issues and needs for the client portfolio, and the schedule of approved projects and services for delivery throughout the year;
  • Reviewing RC/PC structure within the general ledger to meet client needs in alignment with central guidelines
  • Appropriate use of the chart of accounts by clients
  • Maintain and champion compliance with Procurement and Finance policies and procedures across Faculties and Schools
  • Monitoring and leading client compliance for travel and corporate card usage and ensuring anomalies are resolved proactively
  • Manage non research and research funding compliance by, for example, ensuring grant conditions are adhered to, timely and accurate financial acquittal reports are submitted to the granting bodies as required and that all grant deficits / surpluses are managed appropriately.

  • Ability to interpret, apply and integrate complex financial policies and procedures, external requirements and accounting standards.
  • Ability to provide strategically aligned financial insights, sound financial management, decision support, advice, analysis and support to client group/faculty and finance team.
  • Demonstrated ability to navigate across a complex (matrix reporting) enterprise.
  • Demonstrated highly developed relationship management skills across all levels of the organisations, inspiring confidence and trust.
  • Excellent Microsoft Office skills particularly Excel, Word and PowerPoint; with the ability to adapt and utilise complex Excel spreadsheets for financial reporting and analysis, budget and forecast preparation and analysis, KPI reporting, ad-hoc analysis etc.
  • Develops, sustains and strengthens internal and external relationships for the betterment of the University.
Experience
  • Higher Education or Public sector Experience
  • CPA or CA or equivalent. (essential)
  • Degree in Accounting, Finance, Management or a Relevant Field
  • Systems: Peoplesoft, Power Bi, EssBase, Markview (Oracle) - usual excel, word PowerPoint etc
